Primitive XXXX
Originally recorded onto multi-track cassette in 1984, at a time of international conflict and jeopardy, Primitive introduced a very new sound to the band’s output. Using a Drumatix drum machine for the first time, they were able to incorporate complex rhythm patterns to underpin their desire to produce more “difficult” music. For this recording, they also limited the instrumentation used during the sessions – using only 2 electric guitars and a bass guitar (fretted and fretless) alongside the drum machine as well as sparse vocal textures. Lyrics were only used on one song.
After its completion, external demands meant that the band folded and didn’t reform for 35 years! The original files were transferred from cassette and digitised in 2011. This new version has been meticulously remastered by David Reid and gives listeners a chance to hear – for the first time – how this band was evolving 40 years ago.
